How Many Holes Does This Shirt Really Have? Almost Everyone Gets It Wrong!
At first glance, this looks like a simple counting puzzle. You can clearly see several large holes in the red T-shirt, so the answer seems obvious.
But there’s a catch: you have to think about what counts as a hole.
Take a close look at the shirt and see if you can solve it before reading the answer.
👕 The Puzzle
The shirt has six large holes cut through the fabric.
But those aren’t necessarily the only holes.
A normal T-shirt already has openings for:
- The neck
- The bottom of the shirt
- The two sleeves
That gives us 4 additional openings.
Now comes the tricky part.
If each of the six torn holes goes through both the front and back of the shirt, every tear creates two openings.
So:
6 × 2 = 12 holes
Then add the four normal openings:
12 + 4 = 16 holes
🎯 The Answer: 16 Holes
If the six tears pass completely through both layers of the shirt, the shirt has 16 holes in total.
However, if the tears only go through the front layer, the count would be different. That’s what makes this puzzle such a good brain teaser—the image doesn’t immediately tell you what’s happening on the back.
