The Answer Was Hiding in Plain Sight
After taking a closer look, the mystery was finally solved.
It was white cheddar cheese.
Apparently, a piece of cheese had disappeared beneath the bed weeks earlier and had been left there long enough to become dry, hard, dusty, and almost unrecognizable.
White cheddar can look particularly strange once it loses moisture. Instead of its familiar soft texture, it can become cracked and brittle, while dust and debris can stick to its surface.
